Timeline/ History of Wushu Hub


History of Wushu Hub
In 1990 – The Children Wushu Club started in Bedok Community Centre, coached by instructor Ling Kok Keng. Mr Ling Kok Keng was then an instructor of Hwa Chong Junior College Wushu Club since1988.

In 1992 - Instructor Ling was invited to start another wushu class in Teck Ghee Community Centre. The first project taken up by the Wushu Club was to be involved in the Chingay ’92 parade.

Instructor Ling was invited to coach the Wushu club in The Chinese High.

In 1993 - Bedok Community Centre Wushu club was interviewed and shown on TV channel 8 “武林英豪”. The airing of the program results in a sudden increase of members.

In 1994 – The Children Wushu Club was renamed "Wushu International Group" and a committee chaired by Instructor Ling Kok Keng was formed to handle the training and administrative matters. The Club adopted the logo designed by Rongzhi.

The first project handled was to organize a Reunion Dinner for all the members of Wushu International. The Reunion Dinner became an annual event in subsequent years.

The Annual Wushu Grading for all members started off in the same year.

In the later part of 1994, the committee co-organized with Bedok Community Centre on a Wushu exchange trip to Jin Wu Association in Ipoh, Malaysia.

In 1995 – Wushu International formed a new Wushu Club in Yio Chu Kang Community Centre and expanded the club to approximate 200 active members.

In 1997 – Yio Chu Kang Community Centre’s Wushu Club was closed due low membership.

In 1999 – Singapore National Wushu Federation selected Bedok Community Centre to be one of the training centres for National Youth Wushu Development Centre. Closed of Teck Ghee Community Centre Wushu Club.

In 2000 – TCH Wushu Club was passed over to another Instructor due to a change in training schedule.

In 2002 – The first affiliated wushu club of the Wushu International Group was setup in Zhenhua Secondary by two of the seniors (Yanxin and Yong Kai).
Singapore's first mass nine section( 九节鞭) display comprised of 30 member during the 2002 wushu display at S’pore Indoor Stadium.

In 2003 – Wushu International Group took over the Pasir Ris Zone 12 RC Wushu Club.

In 2004 – The National Youth Wushu Development Centre in Bedok Community Centre was dismissed and a new National Youth Wushu Development Centre was setup in Pasir Ris Zone 12 RC.

In 2005 – Wushu lnternational Group took over Pasir Ris Elias Community Centre Wushu Club. In the same year, River Valley High School engaged Coach Feng Tingsheng (a senior of Wushu International Group) to coach in Wushu.

In 2006 – ‘Wushu International Group’ was renamed ‘Wushu Hub’ aka ‘武轩’ and is officially registered in ACRA BizFile to be effective on 7th Apr 2006.

Zhenghua Secondary Wushu Club was passed over to another Instructor and no longer under Wushu Hub.

In 2007 - Wushu Hub implemented the Wrist Band Grading System.

In 2008 - Hwa Chong Junior College Wushu Club was passed over to another Instructor and no longer under Wushu Hub.

In 2010 - One senior of Wushu Hub (Coach Kaiyu) took over the role of the coach for Bedok Community Centre.

In 2013 - Instructor Ling Kok Keng was engaged by Laselle Collage of Arts to be the coach for their wushu programme.
